'Tis the season to be merry and busy!
Coleshill Town Band were recently at their busiest ever with concerts on every weekend of the Christmas period beginning on Saturday 28th November…….
Saturday 28th November saw the band performing for the 10th time at Walsall Golf Club. Although early for the festivities the audience were treated to seasonal music whilst they ate their traditional meal. As well as the usual Christmas numbers the Golf club requested that we play a selection of proms music, so we played Fanfare on British Sea Songs, Jerusalem & Land of Hope& Glory to accompany their merry-making.
The Youth Brass were busy as ever and performed at the switch on of Coleshill Lights & Christmas Market on Saturday 3rd December which showcased their talents as a young band as was much-appreciated by the people of Coleshill.
The evening of Saturday 3rd December saw Coleshill Town Band perform in the beautiful surroundings of St Mary’s Church in Warwick at the Warwickshire Magistrates Charity Concert (in aid of Mary Ann Evans Hospice & Myton Hospice). It was incredible to play in such a beautiful acoustic and to such an appreciative audience.
Sunday 4th December saw the first of 3 carolling engagements at the Fort Shopping Park on 4th, 11th and 18th December. Thank you to anyone who supported us by contributing to our collections. We managed to raise £1200 over the three days which will be put to good use within the band.
Also on Sunday 4th December the small group from the band played carols for some members of the Meridian Lodge in Warwick. ….Phew what a weekend!
On Thursday 8th December the band (in a split formation) managed to perform at two places simultaneously (Phil Collins eat your heart out!) as some members played carols at Whitacre Garden Centre’s late night opening and some play on the top deck of an open-top bus (a first for many I’m sure) at Coleshill’s own late night shopping event. http://www.lovecoleshill.co.uk/
The weekend of 10th December saw our biggest concert of the season – the traditional Christmas Brass concert at Coleshill Parish Church. The audience were treated to a full three hour programme of music which saw performances from Coleshill Beginner Brass, Coleshill Youth Brass and Coleshill Town Band as well as a mince pie and glass of warming mulled wine – which was much-needed as the heating in Coleshill Church (which had just been fixed) decided to have the night off!! Brrrr
The Church also provided the backdrop to Coleshill Primary School’s nativity on Thursday 15th December where Coleshill Youth Brass accompanied the carols and provided incidental music. Thankfully the heating was also fixed by then!
The final concert of the season was in Coleshill Social Club on Sunday 18th December which was a packed-house for the first time ever, and saw the audience in fine spirits dancing to White Christmas and Schneewalzer.
The band finished off a very busy and successful year with three lots of carolling on their home turf in Coleshill on Monday 19th, Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st December. The band found a streetlight amidst a group of houses and played a few carols to spread some Christmas cheer in the town which was very well received indeed. It was made all the more worthwhile when an elderly house-bound lady was pushed outside in a wheelchair to hear the music commented that it had made her Christmas as she was no longer able to get out and see the band and this was something that she used to love to do. The band also played some carols to the residents of St Joseph’s home.
The band would like to thank everyone who has supported them over this very busy Christmas period and wishes every a Happy & Harmonious 2012!
